All-out war between Donald Trump and Elon Musk: "Electric cars are over, he'll have to close shop and return to South Africa."

The US president is threatening to withdraw subsidies from his former advisor's companies (Tesla, X, and SpaceX) after Musk warned Republican lawmakers that they would "lose their primaries, even if it's the last thing I do on Earth."
The truce between US President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk (Trump's former personal advisor after his arrival at the White House) has been short-lived. The South African tycoon's threat that Republican congressmen "will lose their primaries next year, even if it's the last thing I do on this Earth" has sparked the eccentric US president's ire.
Trump was quick to respond to Musk, threatening to withdraw subsidies to Musk's companies ( Tesla , X , and SpaceX ) after the billionaire asked Republican congressmen not to support Trump's mega-budget and tax cut bill, which the president wants to sign into law this week.
" Elon stands to receive more subsidies than any human being in history , by far. Without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and return home to South Africa . No more rocket launches, no more satellites, no more electric car production, and our country would save a fortune ," Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.
The White House tenant has in fact suggested that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led until about a month ago by Musk, take a "good look" at the possibility of cutting aid to the billionaire's companies, reiterating that "a lot of money can be saved."
Trump claimed that his former advisor "knew, long before he so strongly supported me for the presidency, that I was totally against the electric vehicle mandate ," referring to Tesla. "It's ridiculous, and it was always a big part of my campaign. Electric cars are great, but you shouldn't force everyone to have one ," he said.
The president responded to Musk, who warned Republican lawmakers the day before that they would "lose their primaries next year" if they support President Donald Trump's mega-budget and tax cut bill, which the president plans to sign this week.
"Every member of Congress who immediately voted for the largest debt increase in history should hang their heads in shame . And they will lose their primaries next year if it's the last thing they do on this Earth ," he said on his X social media account.
Musk resigned as White House efficiency chief at the end of May amid disagreements with Trump over the bill, which the Tesla and SpaceX executive believes will increase US public debt, something he argued again today through his X account.
"Every member of Congress who campaigned on cutting government spending and then immediately voted for the largest increase in debt in history should be ashamed of themselves . And they will lose their primaries next year if it's the last thing they do on this Earth," the eccentric South African tycoon wrote.
Musk made it clear he remains opposed to the bill, even mentioning two House lawmakers by name who may be key to moving the bill forward. “ How can you call yourselves the Freedom Caucus if you’re voting for a DEBT SLAVERY bill with the largest debt ceiling increase in history?” the South African billionaire posted in a message to Representatives Andy Harris of Maryland and Chip Roy of Texas.
The Senate is in the midst of amending the initiative , which contains key elements of Trump's agenda, such as tax and spending cuts, and increased funding for defense and immigration control ; but it's unclear whether the 53 Republican senators will support it.
On Sunday, one of the lawmakers opposed to the bill, Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina, withdrew from his re-election bid after publicly opposing it and drawing criticism from Trump.
Once the bill has cleared the Senate, it must return to the House of Representatives , where it is also uncertain whether Republican lawmakers, who also hold a slim majority in that chamber, will approve all the amendments before July 4.
